Aidan Kenny Dominates Round 1 of the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America
Round 1 of the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America took place at Sebring International Raceway, Florida over the weekend.
Practice and qualifying took place on Saturday with Aidan Kenny taking pole position in the #22 W2W Porsche Cayman with a time of 2:13.419, 2.5 tenths ahead of second place Austin Krainz in the #119.
As the green flag waved for race 1 Aiden held the lead into turn one and set about trying to pull out a gap from the chasing field. As they started lap 2 the #119 car was only half a second behind the #22 W2W Porsche. On lap 6 the safety car was deployed bunching up the field, Aidan made a fantastic restart when the safety car peeled off, again the #119 was glued to the back of Aidan until lap 10 when the safety car was again deployed. As the track went green there were only 2 laps remaining and Aidan soaked up the immense pressure to win by 0.3 seconds.
Starting from P2 for race 2 Aidan held position into turn 1 and was straight on the back of the leader until Lap 4 where he made a pass briefly taking the lead but got retaken into turn 1. The battle continued with the lead swapping hands numerous times until on lap 12 Aidan passed the leader into turn 13. For the next four laps Aidan was under huge pressure from the #119 but eventually managed to pull away by just under one second setting the fastest lap of the race at the flag.
