Challenging first round in GR Cup for Yoder
After nearly a year of planning and preparation, the brand–new GR Cup Series got underway Saturday at Sonoma Raceway with qualifying and Race 1 and a second qualifying session, as well as Race 2 on Sunday. In the first-ever GR Cup Series qualifying effort Saturday morning saw Aiden Yoder as the quickest driver for Precision Racing LA, securing the 11th spot on the starting grid the 30-car field. Race 1 saw Aidan make a good start and held his position, by lap two he had moved up two places until a full course yellow was shown on lap 3. After 4 laps the green flag waved, and Aidan jumped up to P8 until another safety car halted his charge. As racing resumed Aidan set his personal best lap time as he chased down the leaders only to suffer a snap over steer at turn 9 and then tapped from behind into the tyre barrier. Aidan made it back to pit lane but unfortunately his race was over.
Starting from P8 in race 2 Aidan made another good start, again holding position. A race long four car battle ensued swapping positions numerous times throughout the entire race with Aidan crossing the line in P8.

“Overall, I’m happy with our first weekend in the Toyota GR Cup North America, Sonoma is a new track for me and although I did a lot of Sim preparation it still takes a bit of time to get fully up to speed. It’s a shame how race 1 ended for me as we were having a good race. Precision Racing LA gave me a great car all weekend and I have to say the Toyota GR86 is a lot of fun to drive. I’m looking forward to the next round which is at COTA as it’s a track I have raced at before”.
The next round of the Toyota GR Cup is at COTA on May 20th – 21st.
