Impressive Debut at Sebring for Aidan Kenny

Aidan Kenny made an impressive debut at Sebring in the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America in the Pro-Am class of the 992 GT3 Cup securing two 2nd place finishes.

Making his debut in the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America GT3 Cup Pro-Am Class, current Cayman champion Aidan Kenny had only 2 days testing in the 992 GT3 Cup car before arriving at Sebring. Unfazed by this Aidan managed to qualify in a superb P4 overall (P3 Pro-Am) just 0.5 seconds shy of pole position.

Lining up on the outside of the 31 car grid Aidan briefly jumped to P3 at the first turn before being nudged back to 5ththrough turns 4 & 5. Aidan continued to attack as the 5 car group started to break away, setting his personal fastest lap on lap 7. Aidan was now attacking but a full course yellow was shown for a stricken car and the race was neutralised. As the green flag waved on lap 12 the cars were four wide going into turn 1 with Aidan grabbing the inside line and moving up a place and attacking hard for P3 overall. Now just 0.2 behind P3 another full course yellow was shown for a four car incident that had left debris across the circuit and with just 2 minutes remaining the race finished behind the safety car with Aidan finishing in a fantastic P2 in Pro-Am.

Lining up in P3 for race 2 Aidan got a terrific start and edged his way into 2nd place as he exited turn two and set about chasing the leader whilst also defending his position from the attacking pack behind. On lap 5 he set his personal best lap time followed up by another on lap 6 as he attempted to catch the leader. As the leading duo traded fastest laps, they edged away from the rest of the field. The battle continued for the entire race with Kenny achieving another superb 2nd place at the flag.

Overall, I’m really happy with the results from this weekend considering my limited time in the car prior to the first event, it’s a very different car to the Cayman which I raced last year and I know I still have plenty to learn but for sure there is more time in me. ACI Motorsports gave me a great car all weekend and I’m looking forward to the next event at Barber”.

The next round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America will take place at Barber Motorsports Park on April 29th & 30th
