Solid weekend for Maloy at European GT4 Debut
The first round of the European GT4 Championship took place at Paul Ricard over the weekend with Nick Maloy making his debut in the series. Nick would be driving the #92 Wimmer Werk Motorsport Porsche Cayman RS with partner Emil Heyerdahl.
Having never raced at this circuit Nick managed to qualify in P31 in the 49 car field for race one on Saturday which he would start and Emil qualified in P12 for race 2 on Sunday.
As they took the green flag the 49 car field arrived at turn one with some cars making contact allowing Nick to pass and move up to P23 at the end of lap one, after a safety car period of 3 laps the race resumed with Nick taking another spot. With 31 minutes remaining of the one-hour race the pit window was now open and Nick pitted to hand over to his team mate who managed to make up more positions crossing the line in P17.
Race two on Sunday would see team mate Emil start from P12 but he was nudged back into P16 at the end of the first lap. Emil fought back to P14 before the pit window opened. With Nick now behind the wheel he re-joined the race in P13 and was immediately involved in a 6 car battle for 10th that would continue for the rest of the race until a late spin just three laps from the end would drop Nick to P21.
The next round of the European GT4 Championship will be at Misano, Italy on 17-19 May.
