Top Ten Finish for Yoder at Final Round of GR Cup North America
The final event of the Toyota GR Cup was held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, another new track for Aidan Yoder and this weekend there were Three races. The cancelled race from Nashville was held on Friday Morning.
Starting from P4 on the grid Aidan was nudged into P5 at the pinch point of turn one then the safety car was deployed for a stranded car. After two laps the race resumed and Aidan set about attacking his teammate for fourth position, a four-car battle ensued with the cars rubbing doors three wide with Aidan getting the better of the group edging into fourth position. On Lap 9 Aidan was passed into turn 10 by his team mate then nudged back to P6 at turn 10 but at the final turn Aidan regained the position. A three-car nose to tail battle went on for fourth place trading places for the next 18 laps with Aidan eventually crossing the line in P5. After the race the #57 (winner) was excluded for failing scrutineering elevating Aidan into P4.
Race two on Saturday saw Aidan start in P13, on lap one Aidan was nudged back into P14 until on lap three he fought his way back into P12 but a change in set up from Friday’s race was hindering the performance and Aidan had to settle for P12 at the flag.
With some changes to set up overnight Aidan was hoping to finish the season off on a high, Starting from P7 for the final race of the season the field of 31 cars took two formation laps due to the lower track temperature, at turn one Aidan was pushed back into P8 and over the next 15 laps was in a four car battle for fourth place until on lap 15 Aidan touched the grass with his left rear wheel sending him wide and dropping to P11. By now there were slight spots of rain, and the surface was becoming slightly greasy in certain parts of the circuit, on lap 20 Aidan had moved into P10 but was unable to improve on that position as they crossed the line.
